This Year's Activites and Comments from Guests
Activities

This year’s activities included a group visit to the famous Corning Glass Works and the Corning Glass Museum, The George Eastman House with its International Museum of Photography and of course our Rotary Camps for the handicapped. Some went grocery shopping at our famous Wegman’s Supermarket, took trips to Niagara Falls, and other beautiful parks, and attended some Rotary meetings. If there was one common activity enjoyed by all this year’s guests, it was just living with and doing family things with their hosts.

Lars-Olf Fredirksson, D1390 Finland wrote in November 98: "I have just proposed a toast to Nina for good memories from Wayland-Dansville-Rochester area. For some weeks ago I read "Slim Fingers Beckon" by Arch Merrill and could see those places just in front of me; Conesus, Canadice, and Canandaigua Lake was just there with their beautiful vineyards, lakes and slopes. We saw it all also from the air when we were up from Dansville Airport. Beautiful Rochester, charming night in West Webster, Niagara Falls and so on. It was just what you promised for one year ago and much more. Thanks for that and good memories!".

Lars writes again in April 99: "More than a year has passed since our visit to Rochester and Finger Lakes area and wonderful days there! My governor year have been more than a success from my own point of view; many good programs and projects, good friendship, international contacts, and so on. And more than that! We are preparing a trip to Singapore Convention and from there a visit to "down under friends" DG couple Jim & Valmay Rayner, NZ, who we met in Rochester and made good friends. Can you imagine a better way to make international friendship in Rotary!"

Jim Rayner, 9980 wrote in April 1998: "What a wonderful time we had in your part of the world. No where else could we have such great insight into the ways of the American people. The Finger Lakes, Niagara Falls, the Genesee Valley, and the Great Lakes were a delight to see. Meeting the other 11 DGN,s and wives, and the friendships developed were the envy of many of the other DGN's at Anaheim. It was a well organised and wonderful week. It was good to get into the USA time zone before getting to Anaheim."

Rob and Gretel Wilton collected recipes during their District Governor travels and published a book "A Taste of Rotary" for their District 9980 Heartland Conference in May 1998. The first two recipes in the book were from Bath, NY - Judy Wrinkle's "Wrinkle Barbecue Sauce" and Elizabeth Galpin's "Golden Dividend Cake". We are proud that District 7120 was able to add an international flavor to their book and their conference.

`Ted and Lynn Mason, Governor District 9930 1995-96, wrote in October 98, "We have had you very much in our thoughts for the last few days as we have had Evert & Beata Vles, D1600 Netherlands, staying with us. They were enjoying your DG Nominee Hospitality programme at the same time as we were, way back in 1995. … We had a very enjoyable time with them. See the far-reaching effects of what your Rotary guys do!"

Lynn Mason put it simply after their visit in 1995; "It was a most wonderful experience - to have the opportunity to live in people's homes and share their lives for a few days, it's the sort of experience that not many tourists have. We feel we have made real friends."

Derek Broome, DG 9210 1996-97, wrote after receiving last year's newsletter asking why their name was missing. Our apologies Derek and Mary, for the omission. The oversight has been corrected. The Broomes are now living in Johannesburg, South Africa Keep the letters coming. We love to hear from you, even if it's for corrections or additions.
